THE LIMBO
Everyday
wake up at 5 am to fill the unfathomable void of homework then gawk at the scintillating computer screen till the eyes throb and maybe later become the victim
of peer pressure, cyberbullying or stress. Well, this is the mundane life of a
teenager along with various mood swings, pool of pimples and a little bit of
angst. Adolescence is a tedium period yet fascinating cause one walks on a thin
line between being a child and adult, muddled which side should they choose.
I recently
came across this beautiful quote from the book/movie Chemical hearts, it goes
like ‘Adults are just scarred kids who are lucky enough to make it out of the
limbo alive'. It describes that teenage years are like an inescapable limbo
between childhood and adulthood cause as a teenager you're discovering emotions
like love, heartache, hatred, betrayal for the first time and your body is
experiencing things that u have never felt before as if you are entering in an
uncharted territory.
It is
definitely tough being a teen today cause everyday you have to deal with pressures
of social media, bullying, raging hormones and academic expectations. With
constantly evolving personalities and moods, it is difficult to know who to
count on. Everyone expects you to be mature like an adult but there is still a
child in you who just wants to explore new things.
Another famous saying by Ijeoma Umebenyuo perfectly defines teenage life. It goes something like this " So many broken children living in grown bodies mimicking adult lives." Yes, we are broken. Yes, we indeed do live in grown up bodies which puberty gifts us with, and yes, all we are trying to do is mimic adult lives. We never had and we still do not have an identity of our own selves. We are neither considered in the category of children nor in the adult category. We are just like just like our minds, stuck. We just like our elders as need our share of love, understanding and support. Moreover, we need someone who listens to us and tries to understand our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Adults always tag us as impulsive and we are very often left unheard. I think we deserve our freedom of taking our own decisions based on what seems right or wrong to us.
WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!
We sincerely hope that you enjoyed this article😊😊
